The Collective Agreement, negotiated by your bargaining unit with your employer, the Limestone District School Board, defines your working relationship with your employer. It contains vital information regarding your pay; seniority; posting procedures; working conditions; and other matters that affect your day-to-day working life.
A copy of the Collective Agreement can be found here. The Article specific to Occasional Teachers is Article 47.
As of September 1, 2024, the daily rate is $279.30. (This rate is has been set with the provincial Central Agreement.) There is also a payment in lieu of benefits which is $9.67.
You should be assigned to the schedule of the Teacher you are replacing. Teachers have regularly scheduled supervisions, including ‘on-calls’ to cover colleagues’ classes. If the Teacher you are replacing is not scheduled that day for an on-call/supervision, neither should you be. Occasional Teachers do not do ‘emergency on-calls’. A copy of the Teachers’ on-call/supervision schedule should be posted on the school's OSSTF bulletin board. Be sure to ask where this is.
We have tried to negotiate language to protect you if your job is cancelled very late such as the morning of the job, but we still have work to do. However, if you are called to a job, you show up at a school, then the administration cancels you when you get there, you must be paid for the day. You can be assigned to alternate work. Please call us if there are any issues with this.
In any interview/meeting with the Board or administration regarding your job performance or any matter that could result in discipline, you have the right to have a representative of OSSTF attend with you on your behalf. Please contact us or your Branch President, or the Branch President of the school you may be in if you think you may need representation.
